My all-time favorite

I guess I'm required to go in-depth for this since it is in fact, the best song ever written.

-=)ORCHESTRATION / ARRANGEMENT(=-

Well arranged. Your use of all instruments was amazing. A serious lack of woodwinds, but they really wouldn't be very fitting for this song. Tubular bells and cymbals could have been implemented to a great extent and would have added so much. Timpani also would be great.

-=)MELODY(=-

A great melody and great themes throughout. A great counterpoint for the primary theme. perhaps a more obvious counterpoint for the secondary melody would be helpful as well.

-=)HARMONIES(=-

You implemented pedaling perfectly. Overall, great harmonies throughout. Your ability to use dissonance without sounding bad is absolutely breathtaking.

-=)FLOW(=-

It flowed very naturally, my only concern is the unnatural silence just before 1 minute.

-=)SECTIONS(=-

Very well laid-out, the development of the themes was wonderful.

-=)INDIVIDUAL INSTRUMENTS(=-

Okay, here's where I normally get tired in reviews, especially in long orchestral pieces.

-)Brass(-

In general- Very nice. Worked wonderfully with each other and with the strings.
Tuba- Awesome. Well used in the places it came out. Normally playing pedal notes, but still great.
Trombone- Not even sure you used trombones. :D Oh well.
Trumpet- Great on the melody, great all around.
French horn- I love french horns. Nothing else to say.

-)Strings(-

In general- Wonderful. Created wonderful ideas and carried the song perfectly. Your use of staccato and pizzicato were extremely well placed.
Harp- Great for presenting the idea at the beginning, and well used in the recapitulation. seldom heard in the middle sections, if at all. It would be nice to hear a few notes from it in there somewhere to insure the fact that the harpist is actually alive and not just asleep.
Violin- Wonderful as well. The high notes made for great tension, and the normal notes were simply beautiful.
Viola- Not sure if I could pick out a viola after the exposition.
Violoncello- Not sure I could make one clearly out at any point.
Bass- Same here, I guess I'm just not listening too well.

-)Percussion(-

Not too prominent as a whole, which makes this original. Most fiery songs to rely on percussion to help with the song, this needs very little to accomplish the same thing.

-=)OVERALL(=-
AMAZING, my friend. Hopefully you'll enjoy this review as much as I hated the work it took to write. 10 out of ten, and a 5.

Regards,
MJTTOMB (probably one of your biggest fans)

Good god, man
Thank you so much for this incredible review. I'm honored to get such an in-depth and still quite complimentary review from someone who knows his stuff! For all of you who don't know, MJTTOMB really knows what's going on. If you haven't heard his music, you're missing out.
But thanks again, man. You picked out the orchestration quite well, and you were really able to analyze it very well. Thanks so much for the review :)

Wonderful.

The harp and the Pizz strings were nice. I think your bassoon player passed out after playing like ten measures in a row. A nice theme. Could've used a little more variation. Quite simple, yet cute. It seemed to lose itself after mybe the first minute or so. Also a little short, but this is a first attempt. I agree with Winter. You need timpani.

Anyway, I have to give you credit for attempting a symphony. Very good. Kudos to you, mate.

Review back sometime. Best of luck with your future movements.

thx for the review I probally will revisit it later but for now I sorta have hung it up. It really isnt finished but I thought I would submit it anyways I didn't have a lot of bassoon unless ur talking about my 1st mvmnt lol. Though, if I get around
to it, in the third I will be experimenting with a certain type of harmony Iv been working on it sounds odd but it works.

Congrats on #8, man.

(jealous as hell)

Haha don't be jealous man, you didn't even enter :P

Well thanks for reviewing.

Unplayable. Dissonant. Two things I don't like.

Either way, I suppose it was ok. 7 and a 3. Sorry mate, I'm just not liking this one.

Billtog responds:

There are maybe three or four chords that you'd have to have inhumanly large hands to play. I'll admit that. But you don't like it because it was dissonant? Do you only listen to music that only has perfect fifths, fourths, and octaves or something? Would you dismiss everything that such geniuses as Schoenberg wrote? There HAS to be dissonance. If there weren't any, it would be incredibly boring, and everything would have that stupid happy and cheerful sound.

Pretty good.

Idk how much of it you wrote, but this is a good start. I give it an 8 and a 4. There are points where there's no sound for perhaps a quarter note or so. perhaps a little reverb on the mix would help to fix this. Best of luck, review back if you will.

the starting isn't mine. when we get to 53-120 thats kinda mine kinda the real 1 i just jazzed it up abit. but for the rest of the song its all me XD. but yea. I purly changed it cuz i can't read music sheets and this is the tune that was in my head instead of the real song.

thanks for the review

Heh.

Yay, thou hast a new song.

Anyway, the music was fine.

The vocals are the only thing that got me.

I assure you, you have an awesome upper range. Your lower range just doesn't sound very emotional. Kinda sounds more like you're speaking the words there.

You have a great, and I mean great upper range & falsetto, use them more often.

Voted 5

Thanks. If you go through my older NG stuff and find the original "Far Away" song, you too will be glad with this remix. =p

Thanks for the review.

10.

and 5. (4.46 / 5.00 (+ 0.096))

Great blend. Reminds me of some human slowly becoming a robot as he sleeps or something like that.

Much better than the first as well.

Cheers!

That sounds like an awesome flash........ DO IT!!!

5. Woot.

Great little cute simple melody, somewhat catchy, loops well. Loops well. No 30 second advertising space at the end tho. Great job, again.

MusicalRocky responds:

Haha thanks man.

Nope I don't have those at the end :P

Rocky

Not in d minor? XD

Did you mean Em? this is in no way a major piece to my ear. if it is, amazing job with giving the illusion.

Ternary... form... meh. Congratulations, you form freak. XD jk.

Great piece man, the arpeggiations were nice. The left hand must be really bored, I must say.

Another great job, a 9 and a 5 from me.

MusicalRocky responds:

Lol just because it's my favorite key doesn't mean I only write in it xD

Nope it's definitely in E, middle section is in Em though. Lol yep yep ternary, good for short piano pieces.

Gotta love those arpeggios : D Lol yeah the left hand part is simple, though if you want a bored left hand, listen to Winterwind's pieces. (jk winter don't hurt me)

Thanks for reviewing man.

Rocky

Beautiful.

I fived it. The organ wasn't necessary, in a way, I think it actually subtracted from it.

Either way, beautiful piece. Whether you played this or not, it would take skill and knowledge of the mechanics of a piano to write something like this. Great job man.

Cheers,
MJTTOMB

Jimbobsthebest responds:

Thanks for the review MJTTOMB. I'm pleased that people thought I'd played this, as it suggests that the piano sound I used was fairly accurate. I also wasn't sure about the oboe and flute I added as all they do is follow the lead.

Thanks again for a very kind review, James
